📣 Non-Negotiable Ground Rules
What We Will Never Do
Before we dive into details, these rules apply 100% of the time, no exceptions, no loopholes:
- ❌ We will NEVER sell, rent, or license your uploaded photos, saved outfit looks, custom color palettes, or wardrobe preference data to clothing brands, ad networks, or any third party for marketing purposes.
- ❌ We will NEVER use facial data from your uploaded outfit photos for any purpose — our AI only analyzes the specific clothing regions you tap on during editing, and all facial data is automatically discarded during processing unless you explicitly choose to save it as part of your look.
- ❌ We will NEVER use your unique personal style data (including your palette designs and wardrobe insights) to train our AI models unless you explicitly opt in to our voluntary Style Contributor Program.
- ❌ We will NEVER lock you out of your own data: you can export or delete every piece of content you’ve saved to Merpa at any time, no hoops to jump through, no hidden fees.
📸 Data We Collect (And Exactly Why)
We Only Collect What We Need To Make Merpa Work
There is no hidden data collection. Every piece of information we gather directly powers a feature you chose to use:
- Content you actively upload or create:
When you upload outfit photos for color adjustment, we only process the pixel data of the specific clothing item you select to apply accurate color changes while preserving original fabric texture, stitching, and lighting details. Temporary processing files for unsaved edits are automatically deleted from our servers 48 hours after your editing session ends. If you choose to save edited looks, custom color palettes, or wardrobe notes to your personal library, we will store that content securely for as long as you have an active account.
- Anonymous usage data to improve your experience:
We collect aggregated, de-identified data about how you use Merpa features (e.g. how often you use the palette generator, what color families you test most frequently) to fix bugs, optimize AI accuracy, and build new features you actually want. This data is never tied to your personal identity or account.
- Basic account information (if you create an account):
If you sign up for a Merpa account to sync your style library across devices, we only collect the email address you provide and a securely encrypted password. We will never use your email to send you unsolicited marketing messages unless you opt in to our optional style tips newsletter.
🎨 How We Use Your Data
Every Use Case Ties Directly To Your Styling Experience
We don’t use your data for anything outside of the core Merpa features you signed up to enjoy. The only ways we use your data are:
- To power our one-tap color adjustment tool, ensuring color changes look natural and retain all original fabric details
- To generate custom color palettes tailored to your existing wardrobe and saved style preferences, for every occasion from casual outings to formal events
- To sync your saved looks and palettes across your devices if you have a registered account
- To respond to any support requests or questions you send to our team
- To send you essential service updates (e.g. security notifications or changes to this policy)
If you opt in to our Style Contributor Program, we will only use anonymized, de-identified fabric color adjustment results and palette matching data to improve our AI’s precision. We will never use your full photos, personal identifying information, or unique palette designs for training without separate, explicit written consent from you.
🔑 Your Control Over Your Data
You Own Your Style, And Your Data
You have full, unrestricted control over every piece of content and data you share with Merpa, at no cost:
- Access & Export: You can request a full export of all your saved content (including high-resolution versions of your edited looks, your custom color palettes in ASE/PNG format, and your wardrobe preference data) at any time via your account settings. Exports are processed and sent to your email within 24 hours.
- Edit & Delete: You can edit or delete any individual saved look, palette, or wardrobe entry directly in the app at any time. If you choose to delete your entire account, all your personal data and stored content will be permanently and irreversibly deleted from our servers within 72 hours, with no residual backups kept.
- Opt Out Of AI Training: If you previously opted in to the Style Contributor Program, you can opt out at any time via your account settings, and all your data will be removed from our training dataset within 10 business days.
- Opt Out Of Non-Essential Communications: You can unsubscribe from style tips or feature update emails at any time with one click, no questions asked.
🔒 Data Security
How We Keep Your Style Data Safe
We take multiple layers of security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure:
- All data transfers between your device and our servers are protected via end-to-end encryption
- All saved photos and personal content are stored on encrypted cloud servers with 24/7 security monitoring
- Only a small, authorized team of engineers who need access to fix bugs or process support requests can access personal data, and all access is logged and audited regularly
- We conduct quarterly security audits and update our protection measures to align with the latest global data security standards
In the extremely unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you via in-app notification and email within 72 hours of us discovering the breach, and provide you with clear steps to protect your account if needed.
🤝 Third Party Services
We Only Work With Trusted, Privacy-First Partners
We use a very small number of third-party service providers only to deliver core Merpa functionality, and we require all partners to adhere to the same strict data protection standards we follow:
- Cloud hosting providers: We use secure encrypted cloud storage to host your saved style library content. These providers cannot access or use your personal data for any purpose other than providing hosting services to us.
- Payment processors (if you sign up for Merpa Premium): We do not store any credit card or payment information on our servers. All payment data is processed directly by industry-compliant payment processors, who do not share your payment details with us beyond a transaction confirmation ID.
We will never share your personal data with any other third parties unless we are required to do so by a legally binding request, and we will always notify you of such a request where permitted by applicable regulations.
📝 Policy Updates
We Will Always Let You Know Before Changes Take Effect
We may update this policy occasionally to reflect new features, changes to our practices, or updated global data protection standards. If we make any material changes to this policy:
- We will notify you via in-app notification and email at least 30 days before the changes take effect
- We will clearly outline what changes are being made and why they benefit you
- If you do not agree to the updated terms, you can export all your data and delete your account at no cost before the changes go live
Minor changes that do not affect your rights (e.g. updating contact information for our team) will be posted on this page with an updated revision date, and will not require prior notification.
